KITTIES

You all know I love antiques. But I am also an animal lover. I must admit I have a special place in my heart reserved for cats. They are loving, intelligent, mischievious, independent, full of personality and the list could on and on and on.... Six furry little critters live with me; Seth, Hannah, Raven, Morgan, Linsey and Woolsey. Each one is unique and very special. Seth and Hannah are brother and sister. Seth is a gentle soul and a lover. Hannah is quite the lady and is so sweet. Raven is my black cat with intense green eyes. He is my watcher and is extremely inquisitive. Morgan has many personalities residing in her. One minute she is a loving sweet kitty and within a flip of her tail she switches to her evil twin. Linsey and Woolsey are both girls and they are identical grey twins. They just turned 1 year old and their personalities are still forming. Needless to say I have many stories about my babies. One of my favorites, which at the time was very upsetting, involved Miss Hannah. I had been busy one morning doing laundry and I went upstairs early to put some clothes away in our dresser. The bedroom was dark because I didn't take the time to turn on the light. It was an easy chore which I did quickly. Now it is around dinner time and no Hannah. I searched and searched and then searched some more. I was getting really upset. Finally I heard bump, bump, bump coming from upstairs. I followed the noise into our bedroom and then to the dresser. I opened up the drawer and out jumped Miss Hannah giving me the MOST disgusted look a cat could ever give and I swear she flipped me off with her tail. She had spent the entire day snoozing in the drawer and was quite cranky about being late for her supper.

I would love to hear about your little companions and maybe a cute, funny story that will warm all our hearts.

For anyone that responds their name will be registered in my Antiques Weekend Drawing and the entry will go in a hat. Miss Hannah will pull the winner out on March 6th. The person will win two free tickets to the upcoming Fox Valley Antique Show to be held Saturday March 13th and Sunday March 14th at the Kane County Fairgrounds, St. Charles,Illinois. Additionally the winner will receive from me $25.00 in antique play money that can be spent at the show.
Please leave your story and register for the drawing. I look forward to reading them all and meeting the winner at the show.

  1. There is something so endearing about cats and as I can see you have fallen under their spell.
Perhaps like you write it is their ability to be charming in one moment and then completely ignoring in the next...
They have come a long way in our history from the creature that kept vermin at bay to the purring little puss that has a special place in one's lap.
Living so far for your wonderful upcoming event it would not be impossible to attend but I shall await with anticipation for photos to warm my heart.

  2. You are a woman after my own heart. I too am in love with the cat. I can watch them for hours and cannot imagine what life would be without them. I live on a farm and run a little shelter for unwant or displaced critters. The kitties are what I have the most of, sixty two to be exact. Kitty play is a big deal at my home and I would not have it any other way.
I love watching them chasing each other about and I think they have this game to see who can climb the tree the fastest. I swear all of a sudden three or four of them taking off as fast as they can up a tree. The winner always walks very proud with his or her head and tail held very high.
Thank you Donna for the chance to share our kittie stories and for a chance to win your wonderful give away at the same time.

  4. OMGosh, they are so sweet. I just want to hug and play with them all. Sounds crazy, but I'm very kitty deprived right now. Great story too. Furry family adds so much to our lives.

  5. Donna, it's like visiting your kitties all over again! As you know, Mr. Sether stole my heart. . . I did have a little trouble explaining that to our big old golden lab, Copper at the time, but he got over it.

We love animals in our home as well. It has pretty much been 'dogs' over the past years. And every dog, like your kitties, had their own personality. Back in 2000, I brought home a golden retriever puppy who my husband named Cooper. Sometimes Mr Cooper's brains got a little scrambled, but that sweet soul didn't have a mean bone in his body. When he was a puppy, he would sleep on our bed at night, and just matter of factly would wrap his entire body around my husband's head on the pillow. As he grew, he became a very large, tall 125 lb. golden. I began to call him 'Velcro' because he was always by my husband's side. In fact, at 125 lbs., with the heighth he had, he could take one big step and be on our bed . . . and he would still try to wrap his whole body around my husband's head. It was the funniest sight. Eventually we had to shoo him off the bed. We rescued the current Lab we have to come Mr. Cooper down and they turned out to be great buddies.

That's just a snippet of our life with our furry friends.

    Love your pictures, Donna.

    With a woof and meow,
    Laura

  7. Donna, I have a cat that must have been a sewer in another one of her nine lives. She lives to watch me sew and make my dolls. She HAS to be there with me and if I must shut the door, she sticks her little paw under it and somehow gets it open so she can be there. One of my favorite stories is the time I came home from work and the two pussy foots had gotton into my 11 lb ball of roving and it was all over the house, in every room, on every bed, up the stairs and down the halls, In the kitchen and every room. I wish I could have been a fly on the wall and seen it. They wore themselves out -were fast asleep and I didn't hear a peep out of them for the rest of the night. There is a picture of Meeko on my sewing machine if you wish to see a picture.

  8. Oooh, look at these beauties! What a lovely little kitty family. Don't they just have the funniest personalities? I've got a couple of kitties who moved onto my front porch and just never left ;)I guess they adopted us, not the other way around. Their names are Annie Oakley and Clementine, they're tough gals ;)

I am so enjoying your blog and getting to know you!~

  9. My Sammy is sitting on my lap as I type this. She was left to the cold world just over a year ago, and so we adopted her. She looks exactly like my favorite little beauty Claw-dia of long ago. That would be the perfect tabby girl. Sammy is so in love with being able to live inside, and indeed she does enjoy visits to the outdoors as well.

    Mew, mew, mew...
