When I started this blog a year ago it was because of my love of antiques and history. I was determined that it would be historic and educational in content with a sprinkling of some quirky stuff. Events of this past week has made me turn very serious. I want to share with you my heartfelt message that "Life Is A Gift".
When I was 13 years old and a freshman in High School I met a boy by the name of Bill. Bill and I became friends but never boyfriend and girlfriend. In my junior year I met Scott who in the future I married. I introduced him to Bill and they became best friends. In college I was the reason that Bill met Nadia who he eventually married. The four of us continued to be best friends for 43 years. Scott and I are also godparents to their son. Last Monday night at 11:03p.m. I received a phone call from their son, who is going to medical school in Phoenix, AZ, that Bill had suddenly passed away from a massive heart attack. Bill was only 56! I don't need to describe the grief I feel. I'm sure all of you have suffered a loss of a loved one. Sadly I was unable to accompany my husband to Phoenix for the funeral on Thursday. I did however drive him to the airport and on the way home my van was hit by a 18 wheel semi truck going at least 55 mph. He hit the passenger side of the van, slammed me into the guard rail and kept on going. I'm sure both God and Bill were watching over me because I was unhurt. This happened only one day after my dear friend had died. To each and every one of you that read this please remember that LIFE IS A GIFT! Tell your dear ones EVERYDAY that you LOVE them and that they are precious to you. NOTHING and I mean NOTHING should ever get in the way of that and NEVER go to bed angry at one another. Life is too short and could be gone in an instant. I will miss my friend and NEVER forget him. I will also thank God every day that I walked away unhurt and alive from that accident.
Donna
P.S. Sadly I have found out that Miss Hannah has intestinal cancer. We are doing everything we can to try and beat this awful foe who is trying to steal my sweet little girl from me.

Dear Donna, There are few words that can console a deeply saddened heart but to relive the fond memories of those who've passed on helps to restore one's faith that all has not been in vain.
ReplyDeleteI am sorry to read of your accident and the illness of your kittie.
Hold fast to the bright, sunny Spring days as they arrive and enjoy every moment with Miss Hannah...

Dear friend,
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry for the loss of your dear friend, Bill. He must have been quite special indeed for the four of you to have forged a 43 year bond of friendship. What a treasure that is.
I am so glad that you were protected from being seriously hurt on your way home from the airport. I can only imagine how much more that experience added to your heartache and distress . . . and then Miss Hannah. You are so right, everyday is a gift. I actually have that written in script on my dining room wall, given to me by a good friend. There is no guarantee of tomorrow for any of us. But the one guarantee we can have is the love of a Heavenly Father who loves us and desires us to be in relationship with Him . . . He has a purpose for our lives.
Prayerful hugs,
Laura
"Come to me all who are weary and heavy-laden and I will give you rest." MT. 11:28
Oh goodness, I am so sorry! Bill sounds like such a dear friend. And I know without a doubt he must have been looking out for you! What a scary situation! A while back I was driving down the highway with my little one in the car, and a huge semi merged nearly right on top of me...with no where for me to go! I was so terrified....I know you must have been too.
ReplyDeleteMy thoughts are with you~

Heavens Donna! To be sure you had a ring of Angels & Bill watching over you~ I am so glad you are ok. I believe God never gives us something we cant handle...and when we ask for strength, and compassion, and to be better people, that He just doesnt go snapping his fingers, but instead gives us situations to learn from. Its hard to describe, but I know you know what I mean. Every second of each and every day is a blessing, a ture gift as you have said, and if more folks realized this, the world would not be full of war and hateful feelings.
ReplyDeletea friendship of 43 years has not ended, you have a lifetime of memories and in those he will always be here for his loved ones and friends. Stay strong~ Hope the show went well and Hannah is feeling better~
